Rani Durgavati was born on 5th October 1524 A.D. in the family of famous Chandel emperor Keerat Rai. Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya, formerly known as Jabalpur University has been engaged continuously in disseminating knowledge to all. Rani Durgavati University (RD University) is situated on the banks of Narmada, the ancient-most river of our country and is also surrounded by thickly populated tribal belt, which has a rich and vivid culture and value system. In a way we have the best amalgam of various streams of Indian culture.
The RD University (Rani Durgavati University) was constituted and established on 12 June 1956 under the Jabalpur University Act, 1956 (Act No. 22 of 1956) with territorial jurisdiction over Jabalpur revenue district. It shifted to its present location at Saraswati Vihar, Pachpedi, Jabalpur in 1961.
